Back Straight and Chest Out: Wear the Seiko Prospex PADI

It’s a bold statement, but I think that no other watch inspires more confidence than the Seiko Prospex PADI watch collection.

I first saw a Seiko diving watch last summer when we took a quick jaunt to Lagen island in Palawan. We booked a dive to a nearby shipwreck and I was curious about the large wristwatch our divemaster, Art, was wearing on top of his wetsuit. Emblazoned on the bottom half of the watch face was the name PADI. Must be legit, I told myself, if my divemaster was wearing it.

So curious, I made a deep dive on what the watches were when we got back home in Muntinlupa and I fell in love.

More than Just A Name: The Seiko Prospex Padi

Starting with the names on that watchface, you could tell these timepieces meant serious business.

First, you get Seiko, a brand that has become synonymous with quality and precision. Seiko prides itself as an innovator in the watchmaking world, creating some of the most iconic watches in the world.

The next item on that name is the Prospex. A combination of the words professional and specifications, this collection is for those looking for a lot of oomph in their timepieces. Originally reserved for Seiko diving watches, the collection has expanded to a lot more applications, making it the ideal watch. But for the purpose of this piece, we talk about the Prospex automatic diver’s watches.

Finally, you get PADI, the Professional Association of Diving Instructors. PADI is also serious business as it is the worldwide organization of professional divers. A PADI seal of approval means that this watch is the best of the best for diving watches. Thus, these PADI special edition timepieces are meant for those who take diving with a fierce passion.

Presenting the Seiko Prospex PADI Collection

Now let’s take a look at the Seiko PADI 2025 collection. Here are the watches I’m setting my eyes on.

The SBP375J1 Is At Home In The Deep Blue Sea

  • Movement: 6R35 Automatic plus manual winding
  • Power Reserve: Approximately 70 Hours
  • Case Size: 45.0mm
  • Case Material: Stainless steel
  • Bracelet: Stainless steel with a three-fold clasp with secure lock plus push button release with extender
  • Water Resistance: 200m

This was the watch on Art’s wrist and what started my quest for these bold watches. The first thing you’ll notice is that there is a certain amount of weightiness to it, so it isn’t a blushing daisy of a watch. You’ll know immediately that this is for when the going gets tough.

But what’s really attractive about it is the beautiful undersea themed blue dial. This is what attracted me to the Prospex automatic diver in the first place. Also, the three fold clasp with the extender is very intriguing because the extender allows you to adjust the watch so it fits just right on your wrist.

During the dive, Art pointed at his wrist to tell me I have ten minutes to surface slowly (don’t want the bends) and I could clearly see the lume on the indices.

This is a great watch for diving enthusiasts and I heartily recommend it to anyone looking to dive up to 200 meters.

The SRPJ93K1 Is An Amazing Tool Watch

  • Movement: 4R35 Automatic plus manual winding
  • Power Reserve: Approximately 41 Hours
  • Case Size: 43.8mm
  • Case Material: Stainless steel
  • Bracelet: Silicone Band
  • Water Resistance: 200m

The SRPJ93K1 has a special place in my heart because this is the Seiko PADI special edition watch which I ultimately purchased.

Like the SPB375J1 it has that gorgeous deep sea motif on its dial but the case shape is drawing from the perfectly circular Tuna designs that Seiko is famous for.

What really made me buy it though was the silicone bracelet. I find that silicone is way more comfortable on my wrist but in the same breath people swear by the stainless steel bracelets. It really is your own experience with the stuff that will guide your decision but for me I love the strap on this piece.

I took it down to Coron for another dive and it performed so well that I was tempted to buy another one for my wife. But go figure, she wanted another watch in the lineup.

The SRPK01K1 Let’s You Go Deep

  • Movement: 4R36 Automatic plus manual winding
  • Power Reserve: Approximately 41 Hours
  • Case Size: 45.0mm
  • Case Material: Stainless steel
  • Bracelet: Stainless steel with a three-fold clasp with secure lock plus push button release with extender
  • Water Resistance: 200m

This is the watch the wife bought. Yes, this is a big watch in the PADI collection but there is nothing about rules that says women can’t wear larger watches from the Seiko men’s sports line. To be fair, my wife is twice the adventurer I am (and she drives a Ford Raptor) so going big isn’t really atypical behavior for her.

What she likes is precisely the 45.0mm case size with the Turtle silhouette. The curved shell just gives you that air of durability. Again you see that beautiful deep sea blue motif of the bold watches of the Seiko Prospex PADI collection.

Wear The Seiko Prospex PADI

If anything you have to say that these are some of the most exceptionally built examples of the Seiko diving watch. Durable construction, plus superior movement engineering and deep sea design equals the Seiko Prospex PADI.

This unique combination is bound to give you an extra dose of confidence that you can’t find in any other watch. Wear these excellent watches with pride, keep your back straight and puff out your chest because you can say you are one of an elite company.

And to get your Seiko Prospex PADI watch, I vouch for the Seiko Philippines Boutique. Check out their boutiques on ground or buy your watch online.
